are we doomed to repeat history?

After our lovely president felt compelled to pass the most recent executive orders, further suppressing our inalienable right to own and use firearms, I felt it was called for to discuss the issue. The discussion of gun control and gun use is not something I find hard to discuss as you know, but I don’t often include stats and quotes because to me, guns are a common sense issue. Obviously you arrest someone doing intended harm, or threat of harm, with a gun. Obviously, you don’t allow a medically insane person to purchase a gun. Obviously you teach your kids gun safety. These are just a few common sense responses to responsible gun ownership.
But I have had it with the lack of knowledge many people have regarding the right to bear arms, and I have had it with the media trying to manipulate us in favor of government control. Common sense argument has carried me along until now, but I wanted to share with you some of the real facts to help you see the bigger picture, if you haven’t already. I believe most of you who follow us are for gun rights, but whether or not you are, I believe you’ll find such research informative.
Over the past several years I have heard so many facts and figures, I have been able to incorporate what I remember into conversations, but I do not have such a good memory that I can spout them off verbatim, so I recently started doing some research online to pull my thoughts together. While I expected to find abundant information, the initial websites I visited offered so much to read I only had time to skim through some of the more popular ones, and I decided to simply include a few links here for you to check out yourself.
Mainly I wanted to show you how important it is that we remember the primary reason our first government leaders were compelled to protect our right to own firearms in the 2nd and 14th amendments. Was it so we could go hunting? No. Was it so we could defend ourselves from robbers? No. Was it so we could target practice for fun? No. Owning guns was and is a safeguard against tyrannical government. If you own a gun, and your neighbor owns a gun, and your neighbor’s neighbor owns a gun… (you get the point right?) then there is no way the government can become an oligarchic or monarchic government.
Some argue that because the government has way more sophisticated weaponry that even if we all owned guns we would not be able to protect ourselves, that if the feds come knocking, most gun owners would likely offer their firearms up and wave the white flag before the uniforms say boo. I say, number one, that’s why we can’t let them take away any more rights to purchase any kind of weapon we want, and number two, there are more of us (including Oath Keepers in uniform) than there are of them. If, God forbid, the federal government sends out our military against us and they go marching down the street, do you really think they can cover every street in America? No! They will instead rely on the power of fear and coercion.
They hope that if they take away our ability to purchase just enough weapons and ammunition, if they do just enough illegitimate studies to show the “dangers” of owning so-called assault weapons, if they repeatedly downplay the number of gun owning families to make you think that if you own one you are insignificant (nearly half of homes have firearms in them), if they spread just enough fear and lies through their bought and paid for media that we will hand over our only way of defending ourselves.
And do you think, that just because we live in the 21st century, just because we live in America, that we are safe from roundups and mass murder? Do you think that you will be able to live another day with your kids if you give up your guns?
Will those things will happen? I sure hope not. But I have come to realize that abusive governments have survived since the beginning of time. We are all human, we are all sinful, and none are immune to corruption. We cannot allow ourselves to deny the fact that our country faces the same battle it faced against Britain three hundred years ago. Just give them what they want and they’ll leave us alone, we think. But what will that buy us? Another day of slavery?
I’m not calling for war, at least not today. I want to be left alone and go about my life just like the next guy (or gal). I don’t want battle to find me, or leave my children without parents. I hate war, I hate death. But when it comes to my kids, I have to say, I know their future will be dark if it is one that leaves them defenseless against oppressive government. Are we doomed to repeat history? Or can we remind our leaders who is in charge and discourage civil war from ever breaking out?
The first thing you are likely to notice if you start researching gun control and studies surrounding gun safety is that study evidence is not always trustworthy. When some say guns are good and some say guns are bad, and both sides are saying the other’s studies are flawed, who can you trust? You end up nitpicking over tiny details to compare useless information. But who can deny the actual deaths of these disarmed innocent civilians at the hands of government, in the 20th century alone?
- 1.5 million (Ottoman Turkey, 1915-1817)
- 20 million (Soviet Union, 1929-1945)
- 20 million (Nazi Germany and Occupied Europe, 1933-1945)
- 10 million (Nationalist China, 1927-1949)
- 20-35 million (Red China 1949-1952, 1957-1960, 1966-1976)
- 100,000 to 200,000 (Guatemala, 1960-1981)
- 300,000 (Uganda, 1971-1979)
- 2 million (Cambodia, 1975-1979)
- 800,000 (Rwanda, 1994)
I think it is safe to say that common criminals haven’t quite beat these governments in terms murder-by-gun, what do you think? (See JPFO.org for more info)
Papa found this neat YouTube video which features quotes from pro-gun and anti-gun stances. It’s about ten minutes, but if you have the time you really should watch it.
Here are a few really good articles you should read through for more specific information on gun control and the right to own firearms:
- When is it time to start shooting?
- Drudge Links Obama and Hitler on Gun Control. Left Cries, ‘Foul!’
- Tyranny: NY Governor Cuomo’s Illegal Gun Control Putsch
- “Gun Control Facts.”
If you love America, if you love freedom, if you want your children and grandchildren to be free, you will do your part in protecting our American right to own firearms. The republic depends on it, and we are only defenseless so long as we refuse to defend ourselves.

As always very informative post, and I have a tendency to agree with the right to bear arms just as long as those who bear are responsible and they too teach their children about gun safety and how to use a fire arm. Recently, I conveyed how upsetting the Newtown tragedy was to me and how I related to this event. In fact I was too close to this subject that I really did not feel comfortable debate the topic because my heart was too heavy with grief.
As of now I am ready to weigh in on the issue of guns with relation to our culture of violence. The media firestorm as of lately has been consumed with wanting more regulations or censorship of games, television and/or movies. This too is a violation of our rights, Freedom of Speech. This was the point is why I changed my mind about having bans on any firearms or ammunition. In fact as you and others believe it is our liberty that is jeopardy.
There has been much debate about how to protect our children such as armed guards in schools to better security measures such as bullet proof glass to a call system door these are the measures being considered in our district where I work. But that fact is that no one can keep our children safe from perpetrators who want to do harm no matter the weapon. We just have to be prepared for the inevitable; it is the world in which we live in.
When you talk about media, government, citizens, Hollywood; and others only a few have mention that the bigger issues is the lack parental guidance as well as our mental health system. For this reason, I believe that several measures should happen we need to demand that there is more adequate help for those individuals who need mental health care.
Lastly, we need to urge parents/guardians of all backgrounds to play a role in their children’s life. Know what your children is doing from video games to television to the people they hang out with.
Great post and as always I enjoy your blog, Allie.

Would you like to really get upset-try watching this video about Sandy Hook school and then see how you feel. I personally have had enough of this governmental abuse and am a 65 year old granny who wants my grands to grow up free like I did. These people forget who sent them up there and who they work for. Come on people quit being afraid and save our country from those that keep trampling on our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Those 2 documents are important for us to be free and a lot of people have died so we can be free. Watch this video and see what you think our government is doing. GOD BLESS AMERICA should be on everyone’s lips and in their hearts.
